Designing Calculus Exercise Classes

"Kreuzerltests" revisited

Objectives

  • You are aware of best practice examples and new teaching resources for designing calculus exercise classes.
  • You can exchange and discuss your teaching experience with colleagues.
  • You are aware of advantages and disadvantages of various teaching scenarios in calculus classes and you can discuss their potential with regard to diverse learning objectives.
  • You develop new ideas for designing your own calculus classes.

Content

For decades, the design of calculus exercises has remained largely unchanged. In this workshop, we start by discussing your own experience teaching calculus. We explore the potential for optimization of your teaching practice, seeking a more efficient and varied design. Both the successful application of "Kreuzerltests" and alternative procedures without such lists will be discussed. Participants can draw inspiration from best practice examples and teaching resources presented in the workshop.

Target group

  • Academic staff from any faculty teaching calculus

Methods

  • Exchange of experience in the field of calculus exercise classes
  • Analysis and discussion of the participants‘ teaching practice
  • Presentation of best practice examples and teaching resources
  • Team work with feedback loops
