Critical Questions - Critical Mind

How to use effective questions in your seminars

Objectives

  • You can outline quality standards of good questions in your personal teaching context.
  • You can apply questioning techniques in your classes.
  • You can foster students’ competence in raising questions.
  • You can trigger students’ critical thinking and metacognition.

Content

Raising (good) questions is essential in any academic field and one of the most important tools, which teachers have at their disposal. In this course, we follow the assertion that a critical mind is a questioning mind. We discuss criteria for raising "the right" questions and how to develop questions that prompt critical thinking. Furthermore, using questions for metacognition allows students to engage with content, encourages participation and increases understanding.

In the workshop, each participant can choose to arrange one-on-one support with the trainer. Each individual coaching session is 45 minutes.
