Your Introduction to Blended Learning

 Learning outcomes & Content

• You know the advantages and disadvantages of different forms of teaching in online and face-to-face settings, especially synchronous face-to-face and asynchronous online teaching.
• You are able to design learning scenarios combining these forms of instructions to create coherent learning experiences.
• You are able to develop and use digitally supported acitivities for the asynchronous phases of your course.
• You have strategies for converting existing or future courses to blended learning.

Blended learning means combining the advantages of face-to-face teaching and e-learning, i.e. learning/teaching with digital technologies. In the field of e-learning, we will look in particular at asynchronous teaching and learning with digital technologies, where learners work on tasks and content at their own pace and outside synchronous or face-to-face time. Accordingly, face-to-face teaching can take over or fulfil other tasks, e.g. discussions or joint analyses, which are based on the preceding self-study phase. Besides exploring the advantages of both forms of learning - face-to-face teaching and e-learning - you will have the opportunity to create your own Moodle courses and activities. On the other hand, you will be able to work on tasks yourself as a learner in the asynchronous phase and thus experience what the advantages (or disadvantages) feel like from a learner's perspective. On this basis, you will finally develop a concept for converting your own instructional content to blended learning.

University teachers who want to use blended learning effectively in their teaching

• Inputs by the workshop facilitator
• Small group work and exchange
• Individual and collaborative work in Moodle during the asynchronous phase

Format & Workload

This course is planned as face-to-face class. If general conditions do not permit this, the course will take place online.
