Writing mentoring course: ‘UE Schreibmentoring’
Since the winter semester of 2018/19, it has been possible for bachelor's students to attend the Extension curriculum (EC) „Akademisches Schreiben entwickeln, vermitteln und beforschen – Ausbildung von Schreibmentor*innen“ (Developing, Teaching and Researching Academic Writing Competence – Training Writing Mentors) and to experience and research academic writing themselves.
Are your unable to take part in the extension curriculum but would like to become a writing mentor?
Master’s students in German as a Foreign/Second Language, teacher education students as well as bachelor's students whose curriculum does not include an EC can apply for a course equivalent to Module 1. Modules 2 and 3 can be attended depending on remaining vacancies.
Alternative to the EC
- Exercise, continuous assessment, 5 ECTS credits

Application procedure for the course
The course is open to all students at the University of Vienna in the master’s programme in German as a Foreign/Second Language, teacher education students (students of (formal) sciences are welcome), as well as students who are unable to enrol in an extension curriculum.
Specific formal requirements for the course:
- You are a degree programme student at the University of Vienna.
- You have passed at least two writing-intensive courses.
- You have submitted all the required application documents.

The selection commission consists of a representative of the German Studies Directorate of Studies and one representative of the CTL. They rank the applications that have been submitted and take care to cover a wide range of disciplines and languages. Eligible applicants are invited, in groups of 5 to 6 persons, to take part in an interview lasting approx. 40 minutes.
