Training as a writing mentor
What is the task of writing mentors?
As a writing mentor, you will work in a team to organize a weekly writing mentoring session for other students. You teach writing strategies, give feedback and encourage writing. You will be trained and supported by the CTL.
Writing mentors gain

Information about mentoring training
The training in writing mentoring extends over one semester an consists of:
Training workshops (half-day)
- 5 Workshops "Writing didactics"
- 1 Workshop "Diversity competence for writing mentors"
- 1 Workshop "Group facilitation for writing mentors"
- 1 Workshop "Literature research"
- 1 Workshop "Moodle Basics" OR"Moodle Advanced"
Practical training as writing mentors
- You prepare, run and subsequently revise at least 11 writing mentoring lessons in the course of the semester
Attending the supervision and cultancy course
- 1,5 hours per week
- Reflection on the writing mentoring lessons
- In-depth study of didactic writing topics and methods

How you can have the training credited
Are you
- a bachelor's student and
- able to attend an extension curriculum?
Your training will then take place in the context of the extension curriculum (EC) "Akademische Schreibkompetenz entwickeln, vermitteln und beforschen – Ausbildung von Schreibmentor*innen" (Developing, Teaching and Researching Academic Writing Competence - Training Writing Mentors).
- 15 ECTS credits in 3 modules
- Can be completed within one year
- Number of training places: 24 (+ 2 on waiting list)
Are you
- a bachelor's student and cannot (or can no longer) attend an EC
or - im a master's student (particularly in German as Foreign/Second Language) Master
or - a teacher education student?
In that case, you can receive training in the (German) writing mentoring course "UE Schreibmentoring".
- The subjects covered correspond to Module 1 of the EC.
- Modules 2 and 3 can be attended, shoud there be any vacant places.
- Number of training places: 18 (+2 on waiting list)
