STEOP mentoring: information for directors of studies (SPL)

 What is STEOP mentoring?

STEOP mentoring is a voluntary support service offered at the University of Vienna specifically for students in their first semester who are currently in the introductory and orientation period and are preparing for the corresponding examinations.

STEOP mentoring groups usually meet once a week for 1.5h and are accompanied by (in most cases) two STEOP mentors. STEOP mentors have already successfully completed the STEOP for the respective subject and are qualified and accompanied by the CTL in cooperation with the respective degree programme.

The CTL will be happy to help you implement STEOP mentoring for your degree programme. The support offered here comprises:

  • Advice offered by an expert from the CTL
  • Design and orientation of STEOP mentoring according to the requirements of the degree programmes
  • Evaluation and further development of the STEOP mentoring programme

If you are thinking of implementing STEOP mentoring for your degree programme: as we have to apply for additional budget for this, we need (ideally) 1 year preparation time.

…for continuing STEOP mentoring

 

Please observe the following deadlines

To continue STEOP mentoring in the following winter semester:

  • End of May: announce whether STEOP mentors are to be trained again by the CTL in the coming semester
  • End of June: fix the appointment slots for the STEOP mentoring training slots
  • End of July: send the final list of STEOP mentors for the coming semester to the CTL
  • End of February:
    • send lists of mentees who participated in STEOP mentoring to the CTL for evaluation
    • send lists of STEOP mentors who have successfully completed STEOP mentoring to the CTL (for issuing the certificate of participation)

    • To continue STEOP mentoring in the following summer semester: 

    • End of November: announce whether STEOP mentors are to be trained by the CTL in the coming semester
    • End of December: fix the appointment slots for the STEOP mentoring training slots
    • End of January: send the final list of STEOP mentors for the coming semester to the CTL
    • Start of August:
    • send lists of mentees who participated in STEOP mentoring to the CTL for evaluation
    • send lists of STEOP mentors who have successfully completed STEOP mentoring to the CTL (for issuing the certificate of participation)
