Writing didactics pop-ups

Do you want to incorporate writing didactics-related content into your teaching? At your request, student multipliers trained by the CTL will be happy to come to your seminar to give brief writing didactics input (between 30 and 60 minutes).

NEW: Pop Up 8 on AI

List of all pop-ups

  1. Stages of a writing project: In a session lasting 30-45 minutes, writing assistants convey that every writing project, from finding a topic to finalisation, goes through several stages that require different reading strategies and texts. In addition, they teach an exercise in text production.
Required infrastructure: laptop and projector as well as writing tools and paper on the part of the students.
  2. Peer-feedback: In a 60-minute session, writing assistants summarise what constitutes constructive feedback and lead a feedback round.
Required infrastructure: each student should bring 2 printouts of their own text of approx. 2 pages, e.g. the first version of an exposé. The session can also take place on the basis of a handwritten rough draft, e.g. to help students come up with ideas. In this case, an estimated additional time of 20 minutes can be expected.
  3. Structure: In a session lasting 45 minutes, students are taught how to develop the essential components of an academic paper and to reflect on the role of the research question.
  4. Development of the research question: In a session of 45-60 minutes, writing assistants teach an exercise to narrow down the research question. A prerequisite is that the students have a topic and have started to read up on it.
  5. Literature management: In a session of 30-45 minutes, writing assistants discuss why the use of a literature management system can be useful and are available to answer questions. The open-source program Zotero is used as an example.
  6. Reading: In a session of 60 minutes, students are taught techniques for focused reading of academic texts through exercises.
  7. Quoting and Paraphrasing: In a session of 45-60 minutes, writing assistants discuss the function and relevance of citations and intertextuality for an academic paper. Students are shown how to deal with literature from a writing didactics perspective and reflect on the purpose of citations.
  8. Academic Writing and AI: In a unit of 60 minutes, writing assistants reflect on how to use AI skilfully and purposefully in the context of academic writing. They clarify what students should pay attention to when using AI and how AI impacts one's writing development. Subsequently, writing assistants will do an exercise with AI with the students.

All pop-ups can also be held in digital form and in English.
