Writing advice is self-empowerment. Experienced colleagues help you by asking specific questions, encouraging reflection, facilitating exercises, helping you express what you’d like to say, and communicating writing strategies and process knowledge.

Your writing project continues to be your writing project. Writing advice is about your writing process, but what you write is a matter you need to discuss with your teachers or supervisors. For instance, if you have used writing advice to narrow down your research question or structure your paper, make sure that they approve of the result.

Writing advice always takes place on an equal footing. It pursues a peer-to-peer approach to provide a safe space where you can ask questions that you’d rather not ask your teachers.
