Data-based peer student-counselling

During this consultation we will support you in reflecting, phrasing and reaching your individual study and learning goals. 

  • Make use of this consultation to check-in with your current studying situation.
  • Depending on data-availability, you will get a visualized and data-based view of your study progress so far.
  • You will reflect on your study and learning experiences in order to develop strategies for your remaining study duration until graduation.
  • Gain a clear perspective on your studies, your interests, expectations and goals, so that you can plan next steps utilizing the most useful strategies. 

 Time Slots

The consultation lasts for 50 minutes and takes place in person at the address Althanstraße 8b, 1st floor (online on request only). We do not have appointments on holidays or lecture-free days.

  • Which topics can I discuss?

    We offer non study-specific consultations on general learning and study strategies. We support your personal concerns in these three topic areas:

    1: Study progression and study goals (incl. data visualisations)

    • Reflecting, phrasing and adapting individual study and learning goals
    • ECTS-visualisations of one's individual study progression (available for eight Bachelor programmes)
    • Reflecting on personal and institutional expectations (study success, study progress, duration of studies) 
    • Doubts (choice of study, thoughts about dropping-out), decision-making difficulties
    • Motivation and interests 
    • Study satisfaction
    • Reflecting on perspectives and goals after graduation

    2: Individual situation

    • Recognising, mobilising and using individual ressources 
    • Reconciling studying at university with individual circumstances (job, care duties, health, …)
    • Diversity and needs for accessible study
    • Dealing with study-related challenges (stressful situations, feeling overwhelmed, setbacks, exam anxiety, daily life at university, …)

    3: Strategies

    • Reflecting on learning strategies
    • Strategies for study organisation and study planning (general time management and planning)
    • Making the best out of learning groups
    • AI for studying 
    • Communication with teaching staff or admin staff

  • Which topics can I not discuss?

    There are topics we cannot discuss in this consultation but we can redirect you to the right place: 

  • Who can register?

    All bachelor and master students of the university with a completed StEOP (introductory and orientation period). The consultation is free-of-charge and voluntary. Registration is necessary.

    Note:

    If you are still in your StEOP in your bachelor studies, join the StEOP-Mentoring.

    If you are in your master studies and new at the University of Vienna, join the Master Peer-Mentoring to get answers to general questions about arriving at and getting to know the university. You can additionally register for this consultation, if your topics are in our portfolio (FAQ - Which topics can I discuss?).

  • Will I see visualisations of my study progression?

    Yes, there will be data visualisations of your ECTS and the progression in your overall study programme, if you are a bachelor student in the following bachelor programmes:

    • Chemistry
    • Computer Science and Business Informatics
    • Art Histroy
    • Mathematics
    • Political Science
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Economics (VWL), Business Administration (BWL), International Business Administration (I-BWL), Statistics and Data Analytics (Statistik) 

    If you are enrolled in another bachelor or master programme, you can still register for this consultation to talk about topics beyond the data. 

  • How do I register for an appointment?

    Right here on this website by submitting the registration form below. 

    Please check before registration:

    • Make sure to read the FAQs (Which topics can I discuss?) to check whether you are at the right place with your topics and concerns. Enter your topics into the form and describe your current situation. 
    • Check our time slots for consultations on this website and request only these possible appointments.
  • How do I deregister/cancel my appointment?

    After registration, you will receive an email asking you to confirm the appointment. You can answer this email in case you do not want an appointment or if you fall ill, for example. Please let us know about any cancellations or short-notice changes.
