After this course participants ...

  • will know how ChatGPT and other generative AI-tools work.
  • can name weaknesses and dangers of generative AI.
  • can identify and assess the challenges of generative AI for higher education teaching.

Since the introduction of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, there have been numerous discussions and innovative ideas for improving teaching in higher education. However, a systematic overview is still lacking. This self-study course offers comprehensive insights into the technology and its diverse applications in teaching and examination. You will receive a systematic overview of AI in higher education, with a focus on ChatGPT. You will learn not only what ChatGPT is and how it works, but also its current opportunities and challenges in the educational context. The course highlights opportunities for the development of teaching and assessment and demonstrates how AI can support educators, for example, in creating lesson plans or exam questions. Additionally, you will receive concrete suggestions and templates on how to integrate AI into your teaching and use it as a teaching method.

All instructors who wish to learn more about the chances and challenges of tools like ChatGPT in higher education.

Dr. Ulrike Hanke is a freelance lecturer in faculty development and program director of continuing education program "CAS - Hochschuldidaktik" at the University of Education Zurich (Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich). She has published numerous books on the subject and runs the Hochschuldidaktik-Akademie and the portal www.hochschuldidaktik-online.de.
